Kwiktech is put to the test and passes with flying colours.

Last week one of the world’s largest and most trusted Total Quality Assurance Providers, Intertek, completed Load, Pull and Compression Force Testing on 10 x Kwiktech Builds, specifically recommended for their “real world application”, with the hollow metal failing in 8 out of 10 cases and a Maximum Load Force recorded of 15.6 kN (1,590 kg).

All Kwiktech Builds were tested over a 1m span with 5 fabricated from galvanised steel and an identical 5 from aluminium, with steel outperforming aluminium across all Load and Compression Force tests. The only tests resulting in Kwiktech failing before the hollow metal were the 2 Pull (Tensile) Tests, with both tests exceeding 4.0 kN (408 kg) before failing.

Load Force Tests were conducted on 4 x Kwiktech Builds (2 x Galvanised Steel and 2 x Aluminium) comprising of a single 1m length of 38×25 connected to 2 x 50×50 posts. Each metal was tested with the Universal Connector in both a horizontal and vertical position.

Pull Force (Tensile) Tests were conducted on 2 x Kwiktech Builds (1 x Galvanised Steel and 1 x Aluminium) comprising of a single 300mm length of 38×25 connected to 1 x 50×50 post.

Compression Force Tests were conducted on 4 x Kwiktech Trusses (2 x Galvanised Steel and 2 x Aluminium) comprising of a 1m Flat Truss in both a single-braced and double-braced configuration.

All builds were connected using Kwiktech’s Universal and Rail Connectors.

Load Force Tests were up first with the galvanised steel connected in a vertical position (Load Force applied to the 25mm side of the RHS) recording the best results with a minimal deflection of 3mm at 3.0 kN (306 kg) and the 38x25x1.2mm RHS failing at 3.3 kN (337 kg).

When tested in its horizontal position (Load Force applied to the 38mm side of the RHS) the 38x25x1.2mm RHS failed at 2.4 kN (245 kg).

Kwiktech outperformed the hollow metal in all configurations, with the Galvanised Steel outperforming the Aluminium by an average of 38%.

The results of the 4 x Load Tests clearly prove that when used as specifically designed, to act as a Brace Connection for standard fencing materials, Kwiktech ensures your lightweight hollow metal framework is as strong as the hollow metal itself.

Following the successful Load Force Tests it was time to turn our attention to Compression Testing to be conducted on 4 x 1m Flat Trusses comprising of 2 x lengths of 50×50 connected with 5 x lengths of 38×25 (singled braced) and 7 x lengths of 38×25 (cross-braced).

Kwiktech was specifically designed to act as a Brace Connection acting under Compression Force, so when we turned our attention to the Flat Trusses it was fair to say we were more than excited to see the results. And we were not disappointed.

In both the single-braced and double-braced configurations the hollow metal failed in all 4 tests, with the Aluminium buckling at 8.5 kN (867 kg) and the Galvanised Steel recording an impressive 15.6 kN (1,590 kg) before failing.

In all 8 Load and Compression Force Tests, where the hollow metal buckled, not one single Kwiktech Build suffered any sideways deflection.

When tested in a vertical position (Universal Connector on its side with the Load Force applied to the 25mm side of the RHS) the secured Locking Angle recorded no movement or slipping whatsoever.

The Official Intertek Report is due by the end of the week and we will make the official results, and the report itself, available as soon as possible.

Following discussions with the Intertek Team during the testing, we agreed the only way to test Kwiktech’s true limits is to increase the thickness of the hollow metal. Drastically.

Kwiktech was specifically designed to connect readily-available and cost-effective standard fencing materials (50×50 SHS and 38×25 RHS in both Galvanised Steel and Aluminium) with minimal fuss and no experience required, enabling DIY’ers to take on fabrication projects both around the home and in commercial ventures with only a tape measure and standard power tools. While sourcing and testing thicker, stronger hollow metal is a possibility, it is simply not practical for DIY’ers to take on projects with such materials. Kwiktech reduces costs and increases fabrication time for lightweight framework, and that is the way we want it to stay.

Make sure you connect with us on Facebook, YouTube and Linked In to stay up-to-date on all things Kwiktech and to read the official results and report as soon as it is at hand.

Join the conversation below and ask any questions you may have or simply leave a comment. We will make sure to answer all questions and respond to all comments and will happily consider conducting further tests should any practical ideas be suggested.

Cheers, Wade.

Kwiktech – The New Way to DIY

Q: How big can you build with Kwiktech?

A: As big as your hollow metal will allow.

Simon recently asked via our Facebook Page;

“How big…can you build with (Kwiktech)?”

And our answer:

“You can go as big as your hollow metal will allow.”

Kwiktech is a Brace Connection working under Compression, very similar to Trusses used in House and Bridge Construction for hundreds of years, and when configured to fabricate a Truss, Kwiktech takes the game to a whole new level.

We are currently awaiting the final process and sign off on Load Ratings and we have a Creep Test underway on a similar Truss to the one pictured (black coated aluminium image). We expect both to far and away exceed everyone’s expectations (they currently are!) and we will keep everyone updated on all progress via our Blog and Facebook Page.

The main reason to use a truss in any construction is due to their ability to cover large spans with reduced deflection and the opportunity to support considerable loads, all while being lightweight. The major downside is the considerable increased cost in fabrication.

Thanks to Kwiktech the cost of fabrication is now half and the build-time cut to a third. And all using only a tape measure and standard power tools, producing amazing results by first time DIY Fabricators and simply outstanding results by trained, skilled fabricators.

When built in Compression, like the above truss and this awesome Floating Wakeboard Ramp, your framework will be as strong as the hollow metal itself. And if you need more strength, simply add more bracing.

While Kwiktech revolutionises fabrication, it remains no different to any other fabrication technique in that the design will dictate what you can and can’t fabricate. For any span exceeding 3m you will still need to complete all normal ‘checks and balances’ including, but not limited to, Council Approval Requirements, Building Code Requirements and any other relevant Law, Legislation, Code and/or Requirement applicable.

The main takeaway is Kwiktech simplifies the process and opens DIY Fabrication to everyone, but fabrication remains fabrication and all normal and required design, engineering and construction principles remain vital to both performance and safety.

Cheers, The Kwiktech Team.

Standard-Power-Tools-5.jpg

Learn everything you need to know to fabricate lightweight hollow metal framework, 100% square, using only a tape measure and standard power tools thanks to Kwiktech’s Engineering Plastic Connectors, ingeniously designed to do all the work.

While welding remains a critical skill for fabricating large scale framework, it is certainly not a skill known by all, and certainly not a skill for all fabrications. And that is where Kwiktech comes in.

Kwiktech turns anyone into a world-class fabricator in minutes thanks to ingeniously designed Engineering Plastic Connectors, specifically designed to do all the work.

What is Kwiktech?

Kwiktech is a DIY Metal Fabrication System that utilises state-of-the-art technology to improve on traditional construction principles to produce the fastest, easiest and cheapest hollow metal framework possible.

Made from specially formulated Nylon 6, the most trusted and versatile Engineering Plastic available, with added Glass Reinforcement for strength and dimensional stability and UV Stabilisers to disperse UV Light to well below impactful limits, Kwiktech utilises Compression Forces to brace your hollow metal framework improving on the same principles as Nailplates and Timber Trusses used in House Construction for hundreds of years.

The Benefits of Fabricating with Kwiktech?

Unlike traditional fabrication techniques, Kwiktech requires no extensive training or learning, no expensive or difficult to learn equipment, no time-consuming preparation and clean up, no extensive time wasting calculating cut angles, no exhausting attempts to square everything up and absolutely no previous experience is required whatsoever.

No Extensive Training or Learning

If you can use a tape measure and a standard impact driver (or power drill) you can fabricate with Kwiktech. Simple as that.

Kwiktech was specifically designed with non-fabricators in mind. Invented and perfected by a life-long Welder and Fabricator who grew tired of attempting to weld lightweight galvanised steel, the ingeniously designed connectors do all the work for you. All you have to do is ensure the correct Connectors are in the correct positions and your framework will come up 100% square every time.

Kwiktech is so easy to learn you only need to watch 1 x 4 minute Video Tutorial and download 1 x Easy DIY Fabrication Table and you have everything you need to start fabricating straight away.

No Expensive or Difficult to Learn Equipment

The only equipment you will need to fabricate with Kwiktech is a tape measure and a standard impact driver (or power drill). If you choose to cut your hollow metal lengths yourself, then add a standard Angle Grinder with Cut-off Wheel and you have absolutely everything you need to become a world-class fabricator.

With nearly ALL Steel and Aluminium Suppliers and Hardware Stores offering cutting service for a very minimal cost, you can source cut-to-size lengths so all you have to do is fix your connectors and connect them together.

No Time-Consuming Preparation or Clean Up

Kwiktech Connectors fix directly onto your hollow metal with no preparation required at all, and certainly no extensive clean up. Simply mark out the Connector positioning and use the self-drilling galvanised screws to securely fix in place. That’s it.

Once your Connectors are connected together by a single zinc-plated bolt, your Connection is complete. No grinding, no painting, nothing. Fix, Connect, Secure, Done.

No Extensive Time-Wasting Calculating Cut Angles

Whether you’re building with metal or timber, measuring, cutting and perfecting cut angles is one of the most time consuming and down-right annoying aspects of any DIY project for all non-professionals. With Kwiktech, this is now a thing of the past!

All cut-lengths are cut straight with the Connectors doing all the work thanks to 11 available locking angles that guarantee perfect angles every time.

No Exhausting Attempts to Square Everything Up

Utilising clinically precise connectors and simple mathematics Kwiktech allows you to fabricate with confidence knowing as long as you position the right Connectors in the right positions, your framework will come up 100% square.

Kwiktech securely locks your hollow metal lengths at precise angles allowing simple mathematics to do the rest. Just like back in year 8 Maths, if you know your angle and the lengths of your sides, your triangle or square will come up perfectly square, every time.

Absolutely No Experience Required

None. And we mean none. All the experience you need to fabricate with Kwiktech is a Primary School education.

By using our Easy DIY Fabrication Table the hardest part about fabricating with Kwiktech is ensuring you position your Connectors correctly, and this isn’t even that hard.

Once fixed in their correct positions, all you need to do is use a standard impact driver (or power drill) to secure each Connector to the hollow metal using the provided self-drilling galvanised screws, connect your Connectors together at one of the 11 available locking angles and secure with a single zinc-plated bolt. As simple as that.
